This Old Boat

"This Old Boat" is quite inspirational to anyone considering their first boat restoration project. Casey provides just the right mix of instruction, practical advice, and humor. His approach is to begin learning a skill with a small, inconspicuous and inexpensive project, and to use it as a stepping stone to greater things. His chapters on fiberglass and canvas work are excellent.

Dan Spurr provides great detail on a large number of upgrade projects. This book plus "This old Boat" are the first places I look before beginning any significant project.

The tables are excellent for any structural changes. I used them for designing the new engine beds.

This is SailRite's book. Many of the projects are on their web ste, but this gives a good overview for canvas projects. A big help for my sail cover and planned dodger projects.

Chris Craft Boats

Title, author, and publisher unknown

I'm not sure of the title, author, or publisher, but there exists a big coffee-table book on Chris-Craft boats. About 300 pages of powerboats and 10 pages of sailboats, but it has the only printed words I've ever seen on Chris Craft sailboats. It gives a brief history of each model and is pretty interesting. It's too expensive to buy for the 10 pages I'm interested in, but can be seen and read at nautical bookstores like the Owl and Turtle in Camden, Maine.

Fiberglass Boat Repair and Maintenance

This 76 page guide is available where West products are sold for $3.00. AN excellent guide to doing basic and not so basic fiberglass repairs using the West System Epoxy products. Very highly recommended.

Practical Yacht Joinery

Although mostly for Wooden boats, this book should be reviewed before taking on any major interior work. It also goes more into stationary power tools and fixture construction for woodworking than the other books I've listed.
